Primal Trust is one of the wonderful brain retraining programs that helped me recover from decades-long chronic illness.
Cathleen King, the creator of Primal Trust, has an active YouTube channel with great tips for brain retraining.
In a recent video, she described what she called, “The #1 Exercise to Rewire Your Brain.”
She talks about the benefits of this simple exercise for people with chronic illness (the primary audience for her program).
But this simple exercise is also super helpful for anyone dealing with anxiety or just the stress of living in our crazy world.
Here’s a brief description of the process (from a Primal Trust email), but if you have a few minutes I really recommend you watch the video - Cathleen is so great at explaining brain retraining!
“How to do the pattern interrupt exercise:
1. Pause and ask: “What was I just thinking or feeling?”
2. Name it—worry, rumination, symptom-watching, etc.
3. Redirect to present-moment senses: a color you see, a sound you hear, the feel of your breath.
4. Resume your day. Repeat whenever the mind drifts.”
